Fishing is a sport that requires information
Fishing is an unpredictable pleasure sport. It is not a contest, and it is something everyone should enjoy at least once. All you need is someone to provide the basic information on how to play. Once you have that, than it is a pleasure to participate. The result, however, remains unknown because the game will last a lifetime.
A few anglers are on the water looking for lake trout, Brian Ruland of Poor Richard's East said in an April 24, 2004 fishing report. "I weighed six fish today, ranging from 11 to 18 pounds, he added. "They were taken in 53 to 75 feet of water and all of them taken while trolling spoons, just a short ride from the North East Marina. This is the time of year to target these monsters."
That information might encourage someone to try lake trout fishing, which is good.
Previously, I saw this reply, from Relayer, to one of my recent posts:
"Capt. Dave: You have the same attitude I do. If I'm catching them I want everyone to catch them. You know yourself there is so much top secret B.S. that goes on - it makes me sick. If someone were to ask me where, what, and how, I`ll tell them. A couple years ago, I was talking to a guy on the radio, and we were pulling in some real hogs. He couldn't believe I that was telling him what, where, and how we were catching them. Well, he finally came out to where we were and did really well. To this day we are really good friends. Matter of fact, we have a camp right next to each other. Thank You for info!"
That reply might encourage someone else to share a hot spot, which is good.
My goal - as well as Brian's and Relayer's - has always been to help everyone enjoy fishing. If we can introduce someone new to this unpredictable pleasure sport that we call fishing, they will be back. Then, they too, will participate for a lifetime because the game never ends.
Good Fishing,
Capt. Dave Adams
Special note: I have just learned that I have been accepted to college. Even though my formal education ended at high school, it has long been a dream of mine to continue my education. So, here I go. After a 27-year absence from school, I am back and a full-time student studying Shakespeare and the English language.
Unfortunately, with the charter business, college, and a full-time job - little time is left. I will be taking a leave-of-absence from writing regular columns and features.
I'll still be at this site, though, posting regular fishing reports, answering any e-mail question about fishing Lake Erie, and yes, politics (I intend to stay involved with the future of the PF&BC). But instead of writing the Ask the Captain column for this site or a feature story for publications such as PA Angler & Boater and Pennsylvania Game & Fish, I`ll be studying for - and paying for (ouch!) - midterms and books.
See ya on the lake or on the fishing report and discussion pages.
Capt. Dave
