1st saw these on Great Lakes salmon charter boats - I've owned (and broken) other rods costing 3 times as much - now I have six and feel no reason to change. Flex is just right for downriggers and setting hook.

I'm not sure what this guy who wrote the first review did but I've been running these rods for several years on my downriggers and they've held up great. As far as I'm concerned you can't buy a better rod for the money. Great durability and action.

Poor quality, save your money
By JekyllVerified Purchaser from Riegelsville, PA on 8/19/2008
Cons:
Breaks Easily, Halves are unequal lenght, Poor Construction, Too Stiff
Best Uses:
trolling
Describe Yourself:
Avid Fisher
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Eagle Claw Eagle Claw StarFire Downrigger and Dipsy Rods:

I bought this based on recommendations but IT BROKE on my first use. I've been trolling for years and never had a rod break like this. It broke on its first day of use when popping a release -crack. Other comlaints: the 2 halves are of unequal lenght (Well, they are equal now) which makes breakdown and storage more difficult; the rod doesn't load smoothly on a rigger. It seems to be a fast action with the bend in the end, not throughout the entire length. Don't waste your money, buy a Daiwa Heartland.

Comments about Eagle Claw Eagle Claw StarFire Downrigger and Dipsy Rods:

They may not cost as much but don't let it fool you. I have always ran these rods for fishing in Alaska. They have great action and are very tuff. I have used these rods to pull in 15 pound silvers all the way up to 50 pound kings. Not to mention even a 35 pond halibut. Great action and durable for all the abuse I give it!!!
