In researching travel rods, there were very few that came in more than 2 pieces and these were pretty expensive. The Cabela's model was over $100. Traveling by air or in a sedan requires a 4 piece rod and this fit the bill for not too much money.

I bought this to fish in Exuma, lots of Bonefish and some Snappers. No long rod case needed. A well made product.

In buying an Ugly Stick as a gift for my wife, I was confident the rod would be the same high quality as the several Ugly Stick rods I have purchased in past years. The rod is a 4 piece model that is very poorly balanced and the section second from the tip is way too stiff, causing the tip to take too much pressure, bending acutely on even light pressure. I bought this on line and had I a chance to examine it first, I would have avoided it like the plague. Bravo Shakespeare! You have lost a 25+ year customer to your lack of focus on quality.

The end piece came off several times, so I taped the connection together. Fit in carry on travel bag nicely.

I have been using the Ugly Stik series of rod for a long time as I love them.
I had prblems traveling with my 2 piece rod, so I bought these Shakespeare Ugly Stik Spinning Pack Rods. Now I could pack them in my suitcase and take them with me all the time I could go fishing.

I bought because it is a break-down rod that will fit easily in my pack for backpacking trout fishing in Colorado mountains. Super feel!

Being a Ugly Stick, it had to be good. We go out many times and I've always wanted something like a telescopic pole but never could find one that had any action to it or felt like it was for an adult. The Ugly Stick 4 pc set is wonderful! I take it apart. Put it in a tube I made for it. Throw it in my box on my Sportsman 800 and away I go! No need to worry about breaking off the tip of my pole again because it was sticking out or worry about it getting dusty or any bad weather residue on it. The Ugly Stick 4pc pole is great! Just remember this, LOL, your going to have to make sure that the pieces are sucure together or you'll end up casting half your pole out in the water. It's not bad, but it does make ya feel like an idot when people are watching! LOL. Either way, I love this pole and I am going to buy several family members this for them as they too fell in love with it. Good Luck!

Not many travel rods made. The expensive ones are VERY costly (think G Loomis). This is a GREAT value for what this was made to do. A rod that can always be in your car.
Good action, goodsensitivity. Only negative - it is a little heavy.

I store it in the back seat of my truck along with my ugly lite pro 7' UL. I'm ready for anything. I give high score's for the pack rod. Great control of those big walleye's. Another great rod from Shakespeare.

I took the SPL-1104-60 (6 foot) 4 piece travel rod fishing NW of Phoenix to Roosevelt Lake. Do not let the low [$] price of this rod kit make you think it is substandard – it is NOT. The rod is well built with firmly attached guides and hook keeper, and the fit and finish of the components (and the rod itself) is nicely done and gives all appearance of high quality. The stainless steel guides are lined with aluminum oxide inserts, very tough and durable. The synthetic grip was comfortable. I had no bites all day [#@&^$#], but the lure bumping on the lake bottom and submerged trees transmitted nicely to my hand. My rod was fitted with an Abu-Garcia Soron SX40 using Berkley Fireline Fused 10 lb. braid. This 6' rod cast my 3/8 oz. lures almost as far as my $150 6'6" Shimano CRS-66MH. Shakespeare provides a 70 day "Ugly Back" / 7 year limited guarantee on their travel pack rods. It makes a very nice and easily stored rod for camping/fishing. Overall the travel kit is only 22" X 2-1/4" X 3". I drilled a hole through the travel case and upper end piece for installing a small automotive body clip to hold the case together for hanging it on a wall, utilizing the string on the lid. I highly recommend this nice little travel pack as great rod kit.
