Known as the rod that started the graphite craze, HMG rods feature 100% graphite Carbon Veil Technology in place of more conventional fiberglass scrim. Carbon Veil has a much higher modulus than fiberglass - 84% higher - so less material is needed to achieve the same strength requirements. This higher strength-to-weight ratio produces a lighter blank and increased level of sensitivity.

I bought the GS 70H-2. It’s the 7 foot, 2 piece heavy action model.
I wanted a rod with some backbone that I could use for weightless tubes and other light baits. I have a 40 series Gander Mountain guide series reel on it, spooled with 6/20 power pro.
This rod is pretty stiff from tip to butt. The tip has almost no flex when casting light baits.
As most people, I’m used to a rod with a tip section that loads up on the cast. I looked like a rookie fisherman until I got used to casting with it.
I like a 2 piece rod because they are easier to transport, I can’t fit a 7 foot rod in my car.
The rod is light for a 2 piece, pretty sensitive and has a lot of backbone.
I have caught some large mouth and small mouth with it using worms, sluggo’s and tubes. I haven’t caught anything big yet, but I’m trying.
I’m very satisfied with it. I recommend it with a comment/warning that this is a very stiff rod.
