I fish for salmon and steelhead and find this outfit very well made and it has operated without any problems. The quality is very good. This is the 3rd outfit I have purchased, one for myself and two for friends. I have not yet found any objections to this product, and have owned and used it for one season of salmon and steelhead fishing.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

I used to live in Northern CA and fished steelhead trout. This rod would be great for that purpose too. I now live in Southern CA and do a lot of surf fishing. Needed a rod that has some backbone as well as finesse sensitivity. This medium 10-20lb. rod fit the bill. Makes fighting smaller perch still fun with lots of rod bending action and can handle leopard sharks to 30+ pounds. Rod is fished hard in the saltwater, so I did not want to spend hundreds on a rod that will get abused. This rod so far has proven very worthy and would recommend it to others.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

The 10-ft length of this noodle rod is excellent for playing fish but a little tough for long casting as the pole can feel heavy. I may switch to the slightly shorter 9-ft noodle rod (its sibling model), with a slightly smaller reel for all-day fishing. Nothing wrong with the rod, which is beautifully made -- more likely my casting technique that makes it feel a bit large for my purposes sometimes.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

I fish in Alaska - these rods have the feel of a flyrod with the convienience of a spinning rod. Makes catchin smaller fish ( trout ) a whole lot of fun, yet has the backbone to handle salmon as well - have caught many silvers in the 12 to 15 lb range -the rod is sensitive and does the work after the hookup -- allows you to use much lighter line

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

I live in California and our rivers have an "alright" run of Salmon and Steelhead but this rod is too heavy weight for them. The sensitivity is great but it it's tip is very fragile so when drift fishing, it's hard to tell when you hooked onto a fish. It's pretty good at tossing spoons and spinners but this isn't the rod of choice for drift fishing. If your preference is heavyweight then this is the rod for you. If you actually like to play the fish, then this isn't the rod for you. This rod drags in a 6lbs Steelhead like a bluegill...

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

The Steelhead have been starting to trickle in so I took the rod out and tested it right away. Caught 2 nice ones (8 & 9 lbs) my first day out and several more since then. The rod handled the fish with no problems. It did a great job of protecting my light line and was sensitive enough to feel the light bite. An awesome value. (Especially if you are as hard on your gear as I am.)

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

This is not a bad rod for the money. It is well constructed and looks great with the cork handles, but it is a little stiff and a bit heavy when matched with the right sized reel that holds 10 to 12 lb. line. Can be quite tiring and cause a stiff back if you fish a long time.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:

I caught and released quite a few silver salmon in the 12 to 14 pound range over the course of a morning in Kodiak, Alaska. The length and flexibility of the rod made casting #4 & #5 Silver Fox spinners quite effective and the rod handled these fish easily on 8# line. Unfortunately the tip broke off just above the ferrule closest to the tip. I did not notice any signs of damage or construction defects.

I enjoyed using the rod and will either repair or replace it. I would recommend it because it is a very good buy.
