I fish for salmon and steelhead and find this outfit very well made and it has operated without any problems. The quality is very good. This is the 3rd outfit I have purchased, one for myself and two for friends. I have not yet found any objections to this product, and have owned and used it for one season of salmon and steelhead fishing.

This is a great rod for fishing the surf here in Calif. The lure weight rating is 1/8-1/4 but I can cast a 1 ounce weight with no problem.
Son's 2 lb Surf perch
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I used to live in Northern CA and fished steelhead trout. This rod would be great for that purpose too. I now live in Southern CA and do a lot of surf fishing. Needed a rod that has some backbone as well as finesse sensitivity. This medium 10-20lb. rod fit the bill. Makes fighting smaller perch still fun with lots of rod bending action and can handle leopard sharks to 30+ pounds. Rod is fished hard in the saltwater, so I did not want to spend hundreds on a rod that will get abused. This rod so far has proven very worthy and would recommend it to others.

if rear grip was 4" longer would be perfect
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
The 10-ft length of this noodle rod is excellent for playing fish but a little tough for long casting as the pole can feel heavy. I may switch to the slightly shorter 9-ft noodle rod (its sibling model), with a slightly smaller reel for all-day fishing. Nothing wrong with the rod, which is beautifully made -- more likely my casting technique that makes it feel a bit large for my purposes sometimes.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I fish in Alaska - these rods have the feel of a flyrod with the convienience of a spinning rod. Makes catchin smaller fish ( trout ) a whole lot of fun, yet has the backbone to handle salmon as well - have caught many silvers in the 12 to 15 lb range -the rod is sensitive and does the work after the hookup -- allows you to use much lighter line

nice rod if your pulling 15 to 20 lb fish. good lake trout rod
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
This is a great rod. However I should have gotten a longer butt as the reel is close to the sand when you need to mess with the rod tip.

great for light line fishing in crystal clear water and bobber and jig fishing for steelhead
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I have used it on the piers of lake michigan, in the rivers, and even fished bluegills with a slip bobber on this rod. I feel it is a good affordable rod. Take care of you equipment and it will last a long time.
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I use this rod fishing from Jetties on the Texas coast where a long rod with a good backbone is needed. Perfect for reds, trout, sheepshead. good cork handles. I expect the rod to last a long time.
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I use this rod for fishing river steelhead. It's a great rod for the angler who's on a budget, but wants a fishing rod that performs well and is durable enough to last.
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I live in California and our rivers have an "alright" run of Salmon and Steelhead but this rod is too heavy weight for them. The sensitivity is great but it it's tip is very fragile so when drift fishing, it's hard to tell when you hooked onto a fish. It's pretty good at tossing spoons and spinners but this isn't the rod of choice for drift fishing. If your preference is heavyweight then this is the rod for you. If you actually like to play the fish, then this isn't the rod for you. This rod drags in a 6lbs Steelhead like a bluegill...

This rod doesn't have much in the way of action. I bought two and one broke while fighting a fish with 8 pound test line. The line should have broken long before the rod did. [...]
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
The Steelhead have been starting to trickle in so I took the rod out and tested it right away. Caught 2 nice ones (8 & 9 lbs) my first day out and several more since then. The rod handled the fish with no problems. It did a great job of protecting my light line and was sensitive enough to feel the light bite. An awesome value. (Especially if you are as hard on your gear as I am.)

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
This is not a bad rod for the money. It is well constructed and looks great with the cork handles, but it is a little stiff and a bit heavy when matched with the right sized reel that holds 10 to 12 lb. line. Can be quite tiring and cause a stiff back if you fish a long time.

The Rod speaks for it self!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drift a lot of eggs for steelhead and this rod works well. You do have to be careful with the tips though becuase they break too easy.b
Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
I caught and released quite a few silver salmon in the 12 to 14 pound range over the course of a morning in Kodiak, Alaska. The length and flexibility of the rod made casting #4 & #5 Silver Fox spinners quite effective and the rod handled these fish easily on 8# line. Unfortunately the tip broke off just above the ferrule closest to the tip. I did not notice any signs of damage or construction defects.
I enjoyed using the rod and will either repair or replace it. I would recommend it because it is a very good buy.

I've enjoyed using my new Okuma rod to cast light (4 lb test) line in the California surf. The rod is real responsive when the bite is light and also has the backbone to land heavier fish.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Connoisseur Salmon-Steelhead Rods:
This rod has a very short butt section where the reel is close to the bottom of the rod, however it is great for quick hook sets, and it balances nice for those long days on the river.

I bought this rod for my g/f - for chucking spoons and spinners for salmon and trout. She caught a nice Lake Ontario brown trout on her first outting with this rod. For the $ it's a great rod.

This is a very reliable rod and reel combination. For the avid fisherman you would be hard pressed to find a better value in a Steelhead package.
