The idea the the Winlass tip up is great, and I have seen some modles out on the ice that were great, but not the these. Very poor plastic construction. I spent more time fooling with these then I did fishing with them.

The windlass tip-up the first time you set it up sets up a little hard. But once you get the hang of the way it works it's worth the trouble. The lakes we fish around here are not real deep 10 ft. or so. We put a windlass between my other tip-ups and i thank the action from the windlass helps them all.

I think with some fine tuning you can get it working good.Haven't caught fish on it yet.You need to use it close to camp and or above freezing conditions, always chipping away the skim ice.

I have two of these HT Windlass Tipups. The first thing I did was replace all the nuts and bolts with stainless nuts and bolts. The nuts and bolts that come with are very poor quality. The spools can be fragile as I broke one already. When setup properly the tipup works great and does impart a jigging motion on the lure/bait. I used the thin 20-30lb. vinyl coated tipup line on mine. The vinyl line has a bit of memory (coils) but still works well and trips smooth. With some experience you can set these tipups to work well even though wind gusts will flip them back from time to time.

If you like messing with things this is the tip up, it certainly gives you something to do. If you live in an area of constant light wind speed and steady direction they work great. If not they keep you warm getting up for constant adjustments. Here in ND they work 20% of the time.

I love the idea, works well, but built with the cheepest bolts, wingnuts, plastic, you can get. I pulled them out of the box to find stripped bolts. I'm done with HT Enterprizes if this is what the sell as "fishing equiptment". I can get wood stick tips ups that last forever for less $.

Caught lots of pike on these tip ups when others failed. Tie on 2 trebles and fish with 2 minnows (where legal!).Use nylon coated line and hole covers for cold days, great for warmer, sunny ice fishing.Have used and owned every style of tip ups ( spring tip ups, polar, round etc.)This one rarely strikes out.Play with the springs and try not to lose or over stretch them(don't fold tip up with springs attached).Keep the wind blowing over the metal wing
enjoy!!

this looks like it will work great i have 3 have not caught any thing on them yet but when have been able to use weather permitting ie: wicked wind, wicked cold. missed one bite cause line froze in hole, cons the up and down action is like the old ways of making candles, dipping style, when cold .i have not changed line to coated, to see if this fix's that . extremely cheap (poor construction)i broke one before even had chance to use it.(fixed) once it is set up it does move bait well. i would suggest trying 1 to see if it it suits your style or needs. i think under the correct type fishing average 30 or above these will out preform but haven't had a opportunity to use in these conditions i am not sorry that i bought 3 on the perfect days wish all 5 tip ups were these. ny state allows

THE BEST TIP UP I,VE USED.. BUT.. THE THUMB SCREWS TO ADJUST IT ARE VERY CHEAP. I HAD TO USE PLIERS TO ADJUST THEM.. A REAL PAIN WHEN YOUR HANDS ARE COLD... WENT TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND GOT GOOD ONES.. STILL WORTH IT

Comments about HT Enterprises HT Enterprises Windlass Tip-UpOff:

Really like these tip ups. There is minimal setup and some adjustment, but once said and done, I've found, will outproduce 3to1 at least over standard tipups. I use shinners (dead or alive) with a EC pre-rigged hook w/spinner blade. I find the extra flash from the spinner jigged by the wind is a plus! Just read the directions for proper setup(easy). Also remember to check the hole more often for freezups mainly on your line.
