Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle Shakespeare Ugly Stik Ice Rods:

The Ugly Stick name let me down on this one. The basic rod is ok. The problem is that the reel mount just uses the friction of the handle to hold the rear reel mount in place. The rod is missing the Ugly Stick twist lock. Even a basic backing nut would work to secure the reel. As it is, you have to constantly keep securing the reel to keep if from falling off.

Great for young fishermen.

I live in South Florida so I don't Ice fish but would like to try one day.I bought this rod for my 4 year old grandson because as you know the little reels that you buy at the store won't hold up.I was very satisfied with the Shakespeare Ice rod it's small and he can handle it.And by the way he can already make his own cast and is doing well with it.

Great Pole for Ice Fishing. Professional TOp dollar pole for an extremely good price Great Price. Very Durable and by getting the 2.2 LIght very sensative.
BAD PART:
The Reel holding compartment is pretty cheap. A couple of times when I had a huge fish on, it would pull my reel off my pole and my reel would fall in the water. That part sucks. I would recomment using some black electrical tape to help secure the reel. Ugly stick also makes a pole with a reel holder that is a screw down. I just purchased that one, but yet to try it out.

Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle Shakespeare Ugly Stik Ice Rods:

Ugly Stik's are by far the best ice fishing rods I have used. Just like their open water rods they are practically indestructible. I previously would buy new rods every year as my rods always seemed to fall apart by seasons end given the rigors of transportation for ice fishing. So far I haven't had to replace any of the four Ugly Stik rods I have. These are taking a beating and working well. Not even a bent eye! My only con is that they might not be sensitive enough for some small pan fish. So far they are working well for me down to about fish of the eight inch trout variety.

I use the rods for perch ice fishing, work great except the ice builds up in the small diameter line guides and rod tip. Rods are light weight and durable with great backbone.
