In my quest for a reasonably priced 3-weight for interior AK arctic grayling, I spent several days researching various manufacturers' rods. Most were outrageously priced and were shorter than I prefer. In my experience, 6 - 7.5' rods do not cast very well on windy days and lack backbone. In the end I opted for the 8' 3-weight (marked as such, not 2/3 as sellers claim) and topped it with a matching Okuma SLV 2/3 reel. It's basic, for sure, but just plain works. It has proven itself to be a smooth, excellent and accurate casting rod. It has fought literally hundreds of grayling these past 2 weeks, and has easily handled fish up to 15", even in fast water! I am having a blast and this rod has quickly become my favorite! The true test will be in a couple more weeks when it regularly sees 16-18" summer fish. I'm sure it will be up to the task, though! I highly recommend! Thank you FishUSA and Okuma for providing me exactly what I wanted!

Being new to AK, I purchased the 8' 3-weight for arctic grayling. I had never used a rod this light before but was pleasantly surprised. It casts very nicely even with an indicator and small split shot. It feels like a medium action rod to me. The real seat, cork, eyes and wraps are all basic but fully functional. With the grayling not in yet, I decided to try it for arctic char in lakes right after ice out. It performed like a champion, easily handling several hard charging, 12-16" char.....and boy, was it fun!!!

This rod was ok for Salmon this autumn in Pulaski. Got the 8/9 and I'd say this rod definitely leans towards the #8 side of the equation. It felt a bit weak with the 20-30lb salmon I was hooking. Was also a bit poor on casting with a #9 line, though the river didn't require any long or finessed casting. If I could do it over I probably would have gone with the #10/11 version, possibly with a #9 line.

I purchased the 10wt. Although I have yet to fish with it due to the weather. I have casted with it. I paired it with the redington rise reel and its a very nice combo. very well balanced and cast smoothly.

This fly rod has a great feel. It has features found on rods twice to 3 times the price. I have used this rod several times for surf fishing and it was up to the task. Caught a 8 lb. halibut while fishing with a clouser minnow while I was standing on the beach. The fish was maybe in 2 ft. of water. What a fight. Went into my backing 3 times. Matched it with a Okuma Sierra 5/6 reel with 5 wt line. What a great balanced outfit.
