Float fishing has been hot in Great Britain for ages, and has become very popular in Canada for salmon and steelhead fishing. It is now catching on rapidly in the United States as well because it is an unbelievably effective method to drift fish for steelhead and salmon.

Received 9.5 ft. fly rod as retirement gift.
Tip broke. Sent for warranty but was advised by Shimano that this was not a G. Loomis rod and no warranty applied.
This rod is still available and any buyer should be aware of no warranty.
Loved the rod although a bit heavy compared to my other rods.

Comments about G. Loomis Canada xxG. Loomis Canada Frontier Drift-Float Rods disc:

I used this rod to fish for about a month. I liked how it handled, however the top four guides iced up easily and the rod shattered in the mid section on a 9 pound steelhead. This should NEVER happen with a rod of this caliber. Also, when I returned it to Loomis Canada, which is now Shimano Canada; they would NOT warrant the rod since they did not acquire Frontier. If this rod breaks on you, there is NO warranty which is why FishUSA should lower its price even more! Buyers Beware!

1562 2 piece. Hard to transport in a vehicle, very hard moving around in woods or brush as the length when broken down is still over 6 feet. Top line guides are quite small and tend to ice easily in foul weather, but my real complaint is that this rod weighs a ton which becomes an issue on longer outings. It does have the backbone to handle anything a steelhead throws at it. I don't take good care of it but it has never broken

3 of my buddies each bought the Frontier 11' 6' pin rods for steelies (med) action. All of have broke this rod several times.

If you are looking for a quality drift rod, this is way too brittle. We have broke tips, butt sections and mid-sections. Please note: these were broken landing fish....non-salmon....winter and fall steelhead in the great lakes. I have landed 25lb carp on these things.....but for whatever reason, they break under the cold or the meanness of a fresh run fish.

These are expensive to repair since canadian customs hammers you in and out on shipping. Be advised.
