Using a special cold forged aluminum drive gear and a hardened brass pinion gear, these reels will retain their out-of-the-box smoothness much longer than before. In fact, testing has shown that this combination of metals is more durable than an all-stainless steel drivetrain while maintaining the smoothness that Shimano is famous for.

i gave two 2500 series reels to my son Alex for a belated birthday gift.
Speed of shipment and the overall quality of the reels far than exceeded his and my expectations ! They worked flawlessly in the winter temps in Northern Florida (low 30's) catching flounder and speckled trout with smooth performance without fail....I will be getting more shortly for the Spring fishing turn on in March.

I live on a lake in Northern Minnesota. I wore out my old spinning reel (Shimano Symetry Spinning Reel)in 7 years. Decide to try a more expensive reel. The Shimano Sustain FE Spinning Reel works great and is very smooooooth.
