I live in Central Florida (Orlando) but only fish salt water. I think now after using the both of mine S 250 and the S 4230 that they are well worth the money. Best part about mine they came pre spooled with 2 and 4 pound test line. I dont know what kind of line Shakespear uses on their reels but both of mine were red (real easy for these old eyes to see) and appeared to be a better than average quality. The line ties real easy and the knots hold well. Both reels wind smooth as silk....a real pleasure to use.

I am a fishing guide, so my reels get alot of use. the round guide that the line runs over, hwen the bail is closed, will wear out. It is made of a softer metal than should be used. After much use a groove will develop, causing the line to be damaged will reeling in a fish. I have been looking for replacements, but have had little luck. This is the same reel with the model # 200A, that is sold at [...].

Being new to ice fishing (but not fishing in general) I was looking for a decent reel at a good price. This was available on sale and I picked it up along with a ShakeSpeare Ugly Stik Lite Ice. I caught several nice fish and they all reeled in just fine.

It is balanced very well for rods from ice fishing rods to 5' ultra light rods, it has a smooth retrieve but in stronger currents encountered in streams you will have to play with the drag system (pay attention)it is still a smooth drag but some might feel it soft or a little light, but for the price of the reel you get a good bang for your buck.
