Comments about Penn Penn Spinfisher SSG Spinning Reels:

I have been using penn reels for 40 years, they stand up to real world fishing better than any real I have ever used including Van Staal's. Penn reels are simple to maintain and will take salt and sand abuse. Super strong and smooth drag system

Comments about Penn Penn Spinfisher SSG Spinning Reels:

Since grade school I've Been introduced by my relatives and friends many styles of fishing from diving to nets, and I've always enjoyed using rods and reels for the competive and excitement of the whole outing, compared to traditional fishing, don't get me wrong cultural/ traditional fishing techniques has always provided the fruit's of the island's fishes with 100% garantee to fill up the fish cooler for family and friend's. However I long for game and ever since I was introduced to rod and reel I loved it! My first rod was an 6'8" Ugly Stik Med-Heavy with an old style mitchel spinning reel with 20-30 lbs main line.I was so into the idea of catching the biggest pacific blue trevally, never happened the reel wore out. Then I was being pressured to buy a BG-60 however after i've tried using a friend's own I was not satisfied and was interested in the Penn Series. After further review and hands on with the Penn reel I've come to conclude that Penn Reels are for the rough fishing I do on the Island out on the reef line during incoming tides for constant wave pounding and my moving up and down the reef casting and whipping spoons and plastic octopus lures for trevally I had one of my best days landing four 10-15 lbs trevally, three 5-8 lbs trevally, two 2-5 lbs emporers on that same day within 2-3 hours of tropical sun and fun and had a small adience of locals and tourist from Japan whom watched me from the first catch al the way until I lost my last lure and called it the day. Boy that was fun!
I have recently bought the 550 SSG model using a 7' lite ugly stik and am concerned with the cast and retieve part of the reel. At times the casting bar often fails to retract after the cast and I have lost a lot of spoons due to the time needed to retrieve on the reef. I have greased, oiled, rinsed, and tightened every screw when needed I don't understand what might cause the malfuction on that part. Other than that trevally beware!

i would this product again and again.
