(based on 33 ratings)
Brand: Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp.
Located in: Reels, Spinning Reels, Okuma
The Okuma Avenger A Series spinning reels offer a tremendous value in durable, super-smooth six ball-bearing front drag reels. Okuma has done it again by increasing the spool capacities for each size Avenger A while decreasing the overall weights, thanks to the totally redesigned spools and and thinner, stronger blade bodies. The patented Elliptical Oscillation System provides a smoothness normally found in reels priced much higher than the Avenger A Series.

smoother than my Daiwas, this is a nice solid quality instrument. But I wish the additional spool (supplied with this reel) was the same quality as the primary metal spool rather than plastic... maybe Okuma could offer the option of adding additional metal spools with the initial order.

The retrieve speed of a casting reel is vital and this is perfect with float lures 3' to 5' depth.
Maintenance could be simplified quite easily w/ break away clips. But all in all, it's a great reel.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Avenger A Series Spinning Reels:

The A65A series is a great reel, so's the larger one. The lesser reels tend to not be as dependable but are good for begginners. I fish 6 days a week, own fishing resorts in Costa Rica and fish Colorado Rivers almost daily. These are care free reels, even if maintenance is ignored, to a degree. Beats all the newer reels I've worked in business and professionally. In fact I'm ordering more as I write. Randy Smith, Glenwood Springs, CO. P.O. Box 986, 81602 Feel free to call. 970-945-9723

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Avenger A Series Spinning Reels:

I surf cast along the mid California coast and this reel has worked great on my 10 foot Custom Striker grafite pole with both bait and jigs from 3 oz. up to 12 oz. that I have used. I have had no problems after trying it out over several weekends off the shore and with a lighter rod on two costal rivers. The extra plastic bail really came in handy when I went up a river from the beach and needed to change to a lighter test line. The reel is smooth and dependable and holds enough line to make those long casts out past the breakers with out having to go out to far. This is the first Okuma product I have purchased and will buy more considering the exelent quality.

Im pleased with this reel. It has a smooth drag system and enough durability to survive many winter steelhead seasons. Larger models work great for salmon, as well as the smaller models for steelhead. This reel is not the best, but its what you should expect from a cheaper reel.

I have had 3 of these reel break off where they connect to the rod. Every time i had a fish on. The warrenty stinks. You pay shipping both ways and have to pay for money order. They told me they had some bad reels out. Then they should pay shipping. Then instead of a new reel you get a rebuilt one. No more okuma for me!

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma Avenger A Series Spinning Reels:

I was looking forward to using this reel, but was soon disappointed when I tried it out. The line dragged too much when casting and it was difficult to get any distance even with a heavier lure. It was difficult to reel and release the bail, and the line was constantly getting tangled and twisted. The reel was also too heavy for my liking. It was very frustrating fishing with it.

I have fished commercially for Yellowtail Snapper, Mangrove Snapper and Grouper for 12 years. My standard reel has always been the Penn 750. The newer models have not withstood the pressure of heavy use. The Okuma Avenger 65a and Okuma Epixor 65a have proved to be far superior in all aspects.
