was concerned about the drag issue and the possible replacement of the clutch disc . daiwa must of addressed this and i have had no problems yet.

Very good reels for controled depth fishing. Much more dependable then the clip on portable line counters.

I have purchased and used 3 other line counter reels and already had 1 Diawa SG27. The Diawa reels have never failed me on Lake Erie while trolling for walleye. The other reels drag did not hold up when cranking in the fish and side planer. I would highly recommend the Diawa reels over any other line counter reel.

I bought this because my wife always made a bird's nest when we bottom fished in the Gulf. With the counter, she can slow it down before it gets to the bottom, saving me the trouble of untangling it and thus, lowering my blood pressure. But it is such a smooth operating reel, I'm going to get another one for myself. Plus when you have fish at a level above structure, you can get a pretty good idea when your bait is getting in the neighborhood. Plus when we're trolling it works great because you can keep steering the boat while you can tell a novice exactly how much line to let out.
