Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma SLV Large Arbor Fly Reels:

Took this reel with the matching SLV rod to Pulaski for salmon this autumn. The reel did alright, though I quickly discovered that grit will easily find it's way into the mechanism, cleaning it with river water was a partial cure though I had to be very cautious with the drag until I could clean it properly that night. Haven't had that issue with other reels I own, but this one certainly cost the least of my collection. Time will tell if the drag holds up over the next few years.

In all, this reel is worth the money you'll pay. I pulled in more than a few 20-30lb salmon with it. Note: I cut a few meters off the tail end of my main line to accomodate more backing and am glad I did, a few of the salmon stripped me well into my backing. Having the longer reserve made a difference.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma SLV Large Arbor Fly Reels:

I bought this reel in a 7/8w about a year ago for steelhead fishing. Works great and does a wonderful job on the long runs that the steelhead love to make. I have caught probably 100 steelies on it, and the drag works as good as new.(unlike some of my other reels). It's becoming a favorites, smooth and reliable.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma SLV Large Arbor Fly Reels:

Drag & click could be improved but for the $ am not complaining. Performed flawlessly on super hot Manitoba stillwater steelhead/bow cross. Own three of them in two largest sizes. Performed great on large NZ browns. Use for trout in lakes & rivers and smallies on rivers & lake.

I've used the SLV for over a year, and have had great success. It's light and durable and at a great value. I have recommended this to friends who have since purchased and also like this reel. I don't see why you'd pay more for a fly reel.

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma SLV Large Arbor Fly Reels:

I love the SLV! Big and able to take a hit. I use mine in Salt water for Redfish and in the back yard pond for Bass. AWESOME reel, light and the drag is durable to handle a 30"+ redfish running for the horizion. The only drawback I have found is it will take up line while you cast. As I cast the smooth reelin of the spool causes the spool to move around and take up line on me. I usually keep the line from the reel in my pinkie finger and it doesn't happen, other than that this reel is bulletproof and one of the best reels I have owned. Oh yeah.. all this quality for such a small price... AWESOME...

Comments about Okuma Fishing Tackle Corp. Okuma SLV Large Arbor Fly Reels:

Very good flyreel !, for a diecast reel. It looks like it is machined, but it is not. ;-)
Machined flyreel cost at least 3 times than this one.
Material is very tough en very, very light.
The drag is super !! Zero startup.
Only one thing to remember, becarefull, you can lose the dragknob, if you turn it backwards to much (it is not secured).
