Like other folks who have posted about this reel a lot of research went into the purchase of this reel before I bought it. I have not been disappointed at all! I now own multiple float fishing reels (some costing 3x - 4x more) and use the Sheffield as much (if not more) than the other reels. It is excellent and is a great reel for float fishers of any level proficiency.

My first centerpin was an Okuma Aventa, which I used heavily for the last 4-5 years. My one complaint was that the bearings got a little stiff below ~25 degrees. This reel seems to spin more freely to begin with and I've used it twice now below 20 degress with no issues. Seems like a decent product for the price (even if these reels are all too expensive).

It is very well made and totally reliable. Absolutely fabulous reel.
This is a great reel for any beginner, novice or expert and comes highly recommended.
it puts itself in the middle of pack of not being too heavy nor on the lighter side of the fence.
In terms of performance, what can I say, it's a work horse.

Priced as an entry-level reel, the Okuma Sheffield performs well beyond it's price point. My third day out with this reel saw it handle a 15+lb steelhead without problems. It's been out in 18degF temps, mist & rain, sun, snow and performed flawlessly. Nearly effortless startup, solid clicker for transport, and a huge appetite for backing and mainline. A++ reel!

I did a lot of center pin research before deciding on the Sheffield. After many phone calls, and checking various Forums, I concluded the Okuma was the best value for the money. I have not been disappointed. It has good bearings and works well for Wallis casting. The quality is far better than the price would indicate. Start up is good and it is smooth with a solid action when casting or reeling. If you would like to get into center pinning at a reasonable price, try a Sheffield. It has been a pleasure for me to own and use.

if you are just learning how to fish a pin or you just want a great centerpin reel at a great price this is the one to buy. This reel has an effortless start up an is easy to maintain. the only downfall to this reel is that the clicker is very weak and will not keep a tight line while you have your hook in the keeper or in a guide while idle.The best thing you can do to resolve this is to keep the reel case on it while not in use,this will keep tension on the line

For the price it doesn't get much better. My first Pin Reel and, other that buying new toys, will probably be a favorite for many years. Smooth easy startup and solidly built. Great for a beginner or long timer.

I use my reel for small inland trout and monster salmon and seelhead and have never had a problem never!!I use it in derbies and it never lets me down. Verry smooth and fast line recovery all in all OUTSTANDING !!! I will own several more!

Good real for the money. Center Pins are an expensive investment. The Sheffield offers a reliable reel for a fraction of the cost. I purchased it as my first Pin and I am very satisfied. I have landed everything from 10" stocked trout to 30lb salmon on it. It is holding up well against the abuse I put it through.
