I bought mine back in 1990 the original Pacific Steelheader. Ive never even changed the bearing
and have caught 1000's of fish. Best Ever

This is a really nice reel. Unless you buy a completely handmade centrepin, you will be hard pressed to find a better reel on the market. The startup on this reel is excellent. As far as the last review I think that guy needs to learn how to cast or get some more practice. Every centrepin is going to tangle your line or wrap it around the foot of the reel if you don't know how to cast correctly. Learn how to cast the correct way, straight off the bat, and you will have less problems down the line.

I use it to fish for Steelhead and Salmon in northern upstate New York. I've found the line to tangle around the neck. It can be very frustrating in cold weather
