This is a popular Mustad 3399 wet fly hook available in a wide range of sizes. It is used on various wet flies and also makes a good all-around hook. It is very similar to the 3906, except the 3399 has a balled eye and the 3906 has a tapered eye.

Mustad an old standard

I tie most of my flies and bugs and find this hook a reliable old standard that is still affordable and of good quality and duribility.
You can find sharper hooks that are more expensive and I use those too, but for the money these are hard to beat and may in the long run work just as well.

The Mustad 3399 is a heavy gauge wire hook that can handle large salmon without bending. The turned down eye provides good hook set action. It is the excellent length for tying woolly worm flies.

Love the 3399s. They are strong and inexpensive. I have never had one straighten even on fish that weigh in the double digits.

These hooks are very inexpensive and worth a try for anybody. I use them for egg patterns and sucker spawn. They are cheap enough to break them off all day and not worry. Pretty hard to tie nymphs on the small shank but would be good for a variety of wet flys. Sharp and strong.
