These floats work well for Steelhead when it's of vital importance to know exactly what depth you're fishing. The thin wire bottom instantly indicated whether or not you were "ticking" bottom and needed to shorten your line by a few inches. They floated well in calm waters but became somewhat unruly in rougher, faster waters. I would recommend this float for small rivers or streams.
