Best float there is hands down.

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

Expensive, yes...but worth every penny.Best float I've used. I fish a lot of pocket water and swift water. These floats can be slowed down like no others I've used. Maximum floatation with minimum water resistance. Lightest floats I've used for the amount of floatation they provide. They have virtually no momentum of their own so when your offering enters slower water, the float immediately slows down and does not drag the offering. Sensitive and visible.

Cons:

Best Uses:

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

There are 3 cons to this product. 1. Expensive 2. Brittle, you must be careful around rocks and bridge pilons. 3. Many times during the cast, the float becomes twisted in your line and you have to reel back in and start over. HOWEVER, we guide and use this product exclusively. The pros far outweigh the cons of this product.

Casts and slides on line just fine. Was using in choppy waters and it was hard to see the small dome of the float. Even in calm waters the top is hard to see. Float broke when a cast landed on a rock but that is more the fishers fault than anything.

Fresh Water
Describe Yourself:

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

These Drennans have increased our take-downs. With our old floats we were using, finicky fish would not commit when they felt the surface tension. These Drennans have virtually no surface resistance and fish are hooked before they know what hit 'em. The bright orange tops are very visible even 12"+ underwater. They are the premier steelhead float on the market. One caution, they do break easily.

When you can't get fish to hit your jig switch to one of these floats and you will be surprised, they are clear so fish do not see them, I fish leader lengths as short as 12" and as long as 50" and have out fished everybody, they are worth the extra money

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

I've fished these floats for 4years now and I have never had one break on me. When I troll for steelhead/salmon it doesnt matter what float you use...your presentation is always an issue. I troll with the #5 and have made my own weights out of hollow pencil lead on a wire that has little rings at both ends to tie too. Each weight made for each individual float. The thin weight cuts drag down to at least half.
Anyhow, they are in my mind the best float you can buy when it comes to slips, and I've used them all. Advice to the other reviews "dont cast into rocks" and they wont break. These float go down with the most of ease so they dont tend to spoke light hitting fish. Worth every cent.

The premier steelhead float
By SteelheadMarkVerified Purchaser from Pateros, WA on 4/6/2009
Pros:
Easy To Handle
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

These bobbers are the premier steelhead float. Visibility is great. Steelhead bite and the bobber slips easily underwater; there is no surface resistance. We have increased our catch rate because of these floats. The one negative is they are brittle. We get beginner fisherman that cast too far and hit the rocks on shore, and these bobbers will break. But a phenomenal product.

Best Uses:
Steelhead Float Fishing

Bottom Line:

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

Excellent float with minimal splashdown that might spook Steelhead. Prefer the 6, 11, & 20gm sizes, depending on the season, river's flow rate, and weight of desired terminal tackle. (Doesn't require Drennan Mixed Float Caps to use properly, just "bobber stops.") Ideal for NW rivers and streams.

Not durable

Pros:
Easy To Handle
Describe Yourself:

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

After being turned on to these floats by a client even after watching him crack one while on a trip, I ordered 7 of them. I love the way they react in the water, but take some doing to get them to fish right. I jig and float fish... the bobber has a tendency to get ahead of your presentation, ie... dragging your jig and shrimp behind the bobber making the head of your jig instead of the body the first thing the fish sees. Limit your leader length and put some shot on the end to get rid of this... my catch rate skyrocketed after I did this..

CON and a BIG CON. I have cracked 3 of the bobbers on 5 trips. Extremely fragile. I have 4 clients already purchasing these bobbers because of trips, and I hate to see, and have already told them, of what I have gone through with them.

Comments about FishUSA Drennan Piker Crystal Pike Floats:

I use these floats with my noodle rod to float worms at the local lakes to see what will take the worm. That would be mostly sunfish, of course, but I also catch white perch, yellow perch, and largemouth bass. This is a much better float than the Thill Gold Metal floats that I had been using. It can be rigged as a waggler or center slider. At Lake Marburg the there are big sunfish suspended at about 15 feet by the bridge piers and this float works good in a 'slip bobber' setup. It floats great and is easy to see.
