I used to measure depth of water , when Ice fishing, with a line and sinker. I was thrilled to receive this as a gift.

Comments about Vexilar Vexilar Hand Held Digital Sonar:
This is a poor product and extremely expensive (I bought it at [$]) it does not work as advertised.I bought this item to replace my old StrikeMaster handheld sonar as it had finally broken and was no longer made.I read the reviews about all the "cheaper" models and they were all terrible. This was the only one that I read any good reviews on, so I sucked it up and forked over the big cash.I took it out icefishing on New Years and it performed terribly. It has an extremely difficult time picking up the bottom depth thru a clean ice hole (forget about trying to use it thru the ice itself). I would have to try 4 or 5 times to get it to finally register on the bottom (if I could get it to do it at all.)The on/off button is a slide switch on top (unlike a clickable membrane button like better designed products have) which quickly gets iced up after water gets on it. This makes the button stick either on or off and as the product relies on the spring-loaded nature of the switch to cycle itself, its pretty much useless.Maybe this works for divers or something in the nice warm waters but for Minnesota winter fishing forget about it.
