Many years ago I bought an ice auger that nobody seemed to have. It's cutting system was like a Propeller. It's blades were not detachable. Once this became dull it never would cut as it did before. I went and bought a set of Mora ice auger blades and drilled through the blades on the shaft and attached them with the screws. I had to use the tiny shim that used to come with them, it doesn't anymore to get the proper angle. I dare say there is NOT anything out there today that will cut as smooth and with hardly any effort as this auger. My Dad had a power auger, I could beat him up to two feet of ice. Not all day of corse. That's the TRUTH TOO! I can think of two people that were willing to go out and buy me a new hand auger of my choice, if they could have this one. Not a chance, especially now with the new Mora blades adapted to the propeller type shaft.

Wish the edge lasted longer but that depends on the type of ice you are going through. Replacement screws are not adequate. I continue to use old screws. All in all they do the job.

You will need to purchase better screws, I use stainless hex head from the local hardware store or use the original early Mora screws

Very easy to reinstall if you lose one, or if they get dull on you, you can just change them out while on the ice and get back to fishing!

The new blades make a big difference. I recently drilled thru the ice, hit a rock and dulled the old blades. Your'e going no place fast with dull blades.

While the initial cost may scare you away, after purchasing I was shocked at how much of a difference there was with the new blades compared to my old blades. I would say the cutting time was cut in at least half. My ten year old daughter can even pop a hole in the ice now. I have a twenty two year old Mora and feel this was one of the best outdoor purchases I've ever made!

Best price I could find, and the new blades have worked great. Only con is the replacement screws are hex head that come with the blades, I prefer the older style socket head cap screws its easier to carry a Allen wrench to change out blades than a socket and racket or crescent if problems arise on the ice. I used the old set of screws.

Work great - cut through 12 inches of ice in very quickly. The new type mounting screws (hex head) that came with the blades are difficult to apply as they interfere slightly with the auger itself. I just used the old screws (allen head) and there was no problem.

Its a good inexpensive ice auger to have. It works good to up to 8 in after that you are looking for a workout. Make sure not to damage the blade's by drilling in a old hole or bang it on the ice. Every year i buy new blades and it works like new. If you are a first timer buy it. I fish every day allmost on the ice and this was the first one i bought many years ago. i have better ones but since they are double the cost i use them when the ice is thicker . So if you only go ice fishing a few times here and there this is a good buy for you. If not invest in a better one. Adam
