These tip ups are built to last. My brother and father also have sets. This year I will be adding big bait clips to mine but thats it. Year after year we pull them out and there is no rust and no problems. The price is justified because you will probably never have to buy another set of tip ups in your life.

Great product. Built great, heavy varnish. Spend the money and have them for the rest of your life..
Comments about Jack Traps JackTraps Tip-Ups:
There are much better engineered tip ups out there for half the price. Constant fiddling for maintainence required. I don't like not being able to see the spool turn/shalt when approcaching the tip up. There are better styles of tip ups for half the price. This is a grandpa era 60's design that can be improved upon. Should sell for half the price it goes for.

Very well constructed, will be the last traps I'll ever have to buy. Easy to use. Built for a lifetime of fishing fun.....

After less than a full season of use I've had to adjust the spool mounting hardware, tighten the fasteners for the flag holder and grease the flag holder to keep it from rusting. The flag is a pain to set because you have to slip a split ring on the end of the flag holder over a hook on the end of the trip shaft (no way with gloves).
The thing I like least is not being able to see if the spool is turning without looking down the hole or taking the tip up out of the hole. On most other types of tip ups you can see the
spool shaft turning when you're still some distance away. There are much better tip ups available

I've used these tip ups for less than one full season and have had to make adjustments to the spool hardware and some of the the fasteners that were coming loose. The flag shaft began rusting the first time it got wet (altho a little grease solved that). The flag is tricky to set because you have to set a split ring on the end of the flag shaft over a hook on the end of the trip shaft (no way with gloves on). The thing I like least is that you can't see the spool turning when a fish is on unless you're looking down the hole or have the tip up out of the hole. On my Beaverdam or Frabil tip ups you can see the spool/trip shaft as you approach the tip up and see if the fish is taking line or not from a distance. It's not a bad product, but for the price there are better.

I use these fishing for everything from salmon to pike and am completley satisfied with them. They are flawless at -20 deg and have very few wind flags even in the most windy conditions. I have even had one run over by a snowmobile and was still able to fish with it all weekend. A made in Maine trap that catches fish as good as it looks!

SO SIMPLE AND VERY EASY TO USE. I'VE HAD MINE FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THEM. IN MAINE EVERYBODY USES THEM AND TO SEE SOMTHING ELSE ON THE ICE IS UNCOMMON. THE ONLY THING I HAVE DONE IS MADE MINE LONGER TO GET DOWN THRU 4' ICE LIKE WE SEE UP HERE IN MAINE.

flag steel sprays out rust scale when pushed thru guide. Maintenance is constant and messy. manufacturer "says nothing I can do" and hung up on me when i told him I have 40 year old tip ups that don't rust
