Great casting ability and very forgiving. From small fish to large fish, this rod dominates. Extremely impressed with casting. The rise reel is better than advertised...easy to use, easy adjustable drag and very nice look.

Great Rod. Fast tip leads to feeling even the smallest strike. Strong backbone for the true rod benders. The fast tip can be a little unforgiving with lots of line out. Any miss step in your cast will be apparent. Easy casting rod and shoots beautifully. Great loader and with the moss cd reel combo, it makes a very nice setup. The only thing I recommend is changing out the line. Comes with Rio Mainstream and twenty pound leader. The leader on my outfit was very brittle (probably sat on the shelf for a while). Better Main line would be a recommendation but the Mainstream will do the job well enough. Good luck and tight lines. -John

Been fishing all my life but new to flyfishing. Local dealer took me out for a casting lesson with the RS4 combo and a Sage Z-Axis, both 5 weights. The Sage was great, almost effortless when used properly but less than forgiving of bad technique. The RS4 took a little more effort but things happened a little slower which seemed to make it a little easier for this beginner to stay in synch. Took the combo to San Juan River in NM, caught fish to 20" and it performed great. Maybe someday I'll cough up the money for the higher end gear but for a starting rod/reel this combo is a good value.
