Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle xxShakespeare Ugly Stik Lite 6-7 wt. Fly RodDisc.:

I use this rod for horsing around heavy bass bugs & streamers & it is very strong on the tip unlike most graphite rods whose thin weak tips break all to often horsing heavy bugs. The Ugly Stik is very strong & the tip will not break easily. I love Ugly Stiks & always have as they will outlast all other rods even the high priced flyrods which are very light but not strong enough for the kind of fishing I do.

Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle xxShakespeare Ugly Stik Lite 6-7 wt. Fly RodDisc.:

I bought this rod for tough salt water use, especially from a boat. It's called a "Lite" model, but it's still a little heavy in the hand compared to my higher priced graphite rods but it's an easy caster with a decent, progressive action. it's a really tough, deep bending fly rod. It casts best with a 7 or 8 weight line. I think a 6 weight is too light for it. It will be a bit tiring to cast after several hours compared to lighter rods, but for the price and toughness of its construction, it will serve its purpose well. I think it will handle hard fighting fish just fine. It's a good knock-around flyrod for heavy inshore use. It could use a couple of more line guides, but the ones it has are large diameter, and the rod shoots line pretty well. For [$], I could not build one as heavy duty. It is well finished, and I was surprised to find that it is built on the spine. Whether or not that was by chance,I don't know, but the guides on mine are aligned perfectly with the rod's spine. If you are looking for a super tough fly rod for hard fighting fish up to 15-20 pounds or so, take a look at this one. For the money, I don't think you will go wrong. It's also offered in a 10 weight version, and that one should handle just about anything I would care to hook on a fly rod, even tarpon. Typical Ugly Stick toughness. B.Anderson, Sarasota, Florida

Excellent Rod for Fly Fishing for Carp
By JimVerified Purchaser from Twinsburg, OH on 2/12/2008
Pros:
Accurate Casting, Durable, Flexible
Cons:
Four piece would be great, No fighting butt
Best Uses:
Fly Fishing, Large Fish, River Fishing
Describe Yourself:
Avid Fisher
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle xxShakespeare Ugly Stik Lite 6-7 wt. Fly RodDisc.:

This has been an outstanding carp rod for local river fishing. I added my own custom fighting butt to get the reel (down locking reel seat) off my stomach when fighting big fish. I would love to see the entire line of Ugly Stik Fly Rods in four piece outfits for easier travel. The increased cost of three more ferrules would be well worth it.

All in all, very satisfied.

Comments about Shakespeare Fishing Tackle xxShakespeare Ugly Stik Lite 6-7 wt. Fly RodDisc.:

Shakespeare has returned to quality production with this rod. It has the feel and balance of a rod costing many hundreds of dollars more. I would encourage anyone new to flyfishing to give this rod a try before spending many dollars more for a rod. I would also encourage those who are veteran flyfishers to take this rod to their favorite stream or lake. You will be glad you did.
