I bought this for my 10-year old son, and after fishing the Tuolumne river with him, I almost wished I had bought one for me to. Obviously you can't carry extra fly boxes and spare reel spools on a lanyard, but you really can carry everything you need for an day of great fishing. It really made him independent, with flies, tippet, nippers, everything he needed.

The one accessory that is definitely worth getting is a floatant holder.
