These specialty lines are are longer at 120' , designed for salmon and steelhead fishing with two-handed or "spey" rods. These are regarded as the perfect line for traditional spey and overhead casting. This line is idea for big, wide rivers where spey casting is often the only way to reach out to the fish.
Scientific Anglers Ultra 4 fly lines offer top quality, cutting edge design and versatile tapers to produce a line that performs under most angling conditions. These lines are based on the AST (Advanced Shooting Technology) "dry-slick" polymer coating, keeping the line slick and continuously clean. They have a braided multifilament nylon core with optimal air entrapment for minimum memory and maximum floatation.
Ultra 4 Floating Lines, all formulated with AST, are comprised of a special PVC mixture, with 3M Microballoons™ and the dry AST compound right to the core. Because AST is integral within the coating, it will never wear off or wash off. It's always slick.
These lines offer the ultimate in floatation, castability, and durability, excelling in all weather conditions.
Our research, including information we received from Scientific Anglers, indicates these lines are the same material as the Mastery series floating lines, and the only difference between these lines and the Mastery lines are (1) the price and packaging, (2) the color, and (3) the tapers. Both these Ultra 4 lines and the Mastery series floating lines have the same braided multifilament core and a "specially formulated PVC coating with AST technology." If you are looking for a premium, general purpose fly line, and are not interested in paying more just for a name, this is an ideal line.
