FC Sniper line 3 lbs.

The 3 lbs line is proving to be the best ice line that I have tried to date. It has virtually no line memory, is invisible in the water, very little line ice up, spools off with the small jigs (1/64) with no additional assistance, is extremely easy to tie, cinches up smaller knots and with stands a hard line set. The line is very limp and allows you to work your bait but is strong enough to let you maneuver your knot around the jigs eyelet and hold position. Testing was not done in a shelter, all outside and exposed to the elements. Conditions ranged from sunny and calm @ 39°F to snowy and windy @ -6°F, species targeted panfish and trout.
Pros: Very little line memory, Very little line ice up, Strong & manageable

Best Floro Leader Hands Down!!!

I steelhead fish exclusively late fall, dead of winter and through spring.  I have tried all the best Floro on the market for Center Pin fishing.  All floro is NOT created equal~~This is the 2nd best product out of Japan that money can buy.  If you are lucky enough to get the 1st place product out of Japan then go for it but you will pay so much more.  The plant that produces the best floro produces a lesser quality product called Super Sniper FC and is almost as strong as the 1st place product.  When chasing elusive Steelhead in the Michigan Waters this is the product to have in your bag or pocket.  Feel confident running 6 lb in clear water and hook fish and 8 lb in dirty water and hook fish.  Many people will use 4 lb in winter because of temp and elusiveness of the Steelhead.  Means you really have to play the fish to not break off a 10 lb plus fish.  Stepping up a bit in strength assures you being able to put some hurt on that fish without having to fear a break or snap off.  Just make certain to use proper knots with any floro and wet the line down really well with saliva.  Only line I use for leader material~~take in a 15 ft tree limb wrapped line around and land it with no abrasion~~that's a line for me!

Pros: Abrasion resistant, Strong, + small diameter+ strong, Supple, Good price
Cons: No large spool quantities
Best Uses: Center pin, bottom bouncing
Sunline Super FC Sniper Is The Best

Through a lot of trial and error, I have pretty much used all the major flurocarbons in lighter lines out there. Sunline Super FC Sniper without a doubt is the best I have used so far.. It has a small diameter, is supple, and is very strong. I gave up on fluro's for a while, as they always seemed to break so much easier than mono. The secret to using any fluro, as I have found out the hard way,, is don't use your typical mono knots. One of the best knots I have found for fluro was on You Tube. It is the Shaw Grigsby Best Knot for Flurocarbon. it is a little bulky, but you won't have many line failures because of the knot, if tied right. Once you master it it is easy to tie. The other knot I use can be found on You Tube as well- Quest For The Perfect Snell- it is a great tutorial for a true snell knot. Then to tie my fluro to braid (I like to use a longer topshot of fluro) I use a Crazy Alberto Knot (A version of a Modified Albright). Stick with those knots on this fluro (for that matter any fluro) and you will end up with less line failures. As the Rod Stewart song says "I Wish I Knew What I Know Now".

Pros: Supple, + small diameter+ strong
Cons: expensive
Best Uses: When using a lighter flurocarbon

I had high hopes for this flourocarbon, but it just didn't suffice. I used it in the Sacramento River mainly for rainbow trout, but we get a lot of large carp, pikeminnow (squaw fish), steelhead, and king salmon around here, so I needed something for that "just-in-case" moment of landing something more than intended. It didn't cast nearly as far as I had hoped. It felt stiff. Being an avid fisherman that fishes at least a couple times a week, you just get that feeling if a line is what you expect it to be or not. This just didn't feel right. I didn't get many hits like I did other stuff. I switched it out shortly thereafter. I've been happier with the Berkley Vanish 4 and 6#. Fireline is next on my list. Sunline was about a 6 out of 1-10. Vanish was about an 8. I'm still look for that perfect 10.
