puts holes in ice

About Me:

I have an 8" model and it has been great, It has put holes in ice from 3" thick to nearly 3' thick without an issue. I coat the blades in oil after each use and have honed them several times, but never replaced them. it cuts as good today as it did on its virgin run. I have only two very minor complaints about the auger, number one it could use some kind of a pilot bit between the blades, it tends to walk across the surface of the ice a bit when first starting on a hole (as does any hand auger save the Nils) and the other complaint is the country of origin, Mora augers used to be made in Sweden, well now like almost everything else they are made in China.  Despite these two negatives I have drilled hundreds of holes with this auger and not had a problem, it is lightweight and breaks down easily to transport. It cuts fast and true and has held up well, even the paint.

Pros: cuts fast, Lightweight, Durable, Easy To Maintain, affordable

Cons: made in China, Needs a pilot bit

Best Uses: putting holes in ice

About Me:

I have been ice fishing for about 20 years. I bought the 5 inch auger so I could cut some smaller holes than with my 8 inch one. I have only used it once where the ice was only about 4 to 5 inches thick. It cut through very quick. My 8 inch auger is also a strikemaster which I have used for years. I have the original blades on it and have only had to sharpen it once since I got it. I am confident I will get many years of use out of my new % inch one.

I baught the Mora Hand Auger from FishUSA.com. Great hand auger drilled over 30 holes in one day and it didnt wear you out like most hand augers. It cuts the ice agressivly and its not to bad on your arms to use. The blades stay sharp and cut the ice smooth. Nothing realy bad to say about this product. I like the idea of the blade trade out program wrap your blades in news paper and send them back to FishUSA.com save about [$]and recieve a freshly sharpened set or just buy a new set GOOD STUFF! Thanks FishingUSA.com for the ice auger.

My MORA hand auger is close to 20 years old and it still works just fine. 10 inches of ice is no problem for the MORA. This auger, with some care, will last a lifetime. I believe for the price it is a good deal, if my MORA ever needs to be replaced I will buy another hand auger this will be the one.
