I used the pink/med one and it works great for pan fish, I would go heavier for larger fish like walleye. I didn't give it a five rating because of the price and you have to mount it yourself. I buy a # 8 single foot rod guide, insert a 1/8 in. rubber grommet and tie it to my rod tip.
Pros: Functional, Interchangeable
Cons: High Price, high priced, Cost, you must buy extra parts and install yourself

About Me:

I have a st. croix rod with the finesse spring and love it.So I converted some of my other rods (USE A FAIRLY STIFF ROD FOR BEST RESULTS) by adding a #8 single foot fuji guide at the tip of the rod on the top side above the orignal tip guide using guide cement and wrapping with nylon thread. You can then coat thread with clear fingernail polish or clear rod epoxy. Then get a 1/8" rubber gromet from the hardware store and insert it inside the guide. It is tough but it will go in. Then insert your finesse spring guide through the hole of the gromet, If it is very tight use a little vasaline on the spring. Always push the spring to adjust tension NEVER PULL spring to adjust, you will stretch it. Thats it.
Pros: Easy To Use, Adjustable tension, Functional, Easy To Maintain, Durable
Cons: no cons

For larger perch lures use a M/H. I started with a medium and needed to go to the next level. St. Croix should have a guide on its label to indicate the tension needed for the fish you are fishing for.

Cons: None

I've used about every bite indicator produced and none of them can compare to these. The different sizes (Light - Heavy) allow you to adjust the indicator for line weight and the jig weight. Also, when the bite is light you can change the indicator to a lighter size. I'm hooked!
Pros: Adjustable to line jig, Functional, Storage tube, Durable, Easy To Use

Mounted these onto all of my jig rods. I fish a lot of species from panfish to trout and this works great for them all. Easy to change colors/actions in snap. I prefer the pink/medium action for teardrops and ratfinkee size jigs. Once you use them, you won't go back! I gave it 4 stars, because you do have to mount them yourself or pay someone to do it. But 5 stars for the actual spring.

I used to use spring bobbers on all of my rods. I saw this being discussed on a forum and how people are modifying their rods to use them. I figured I would try them and now all of my rods have them. I like the fact that you can change them without cutting your line as long as it is a swivel for jigging spoons and lures or small panfish jigs. I would definately tell people to do this to their existing rods so they don't have to shell out 50 dollars for a St Croix Elite.
Pros: Super sensitive, Interchangeable, Easy To Use, Functional
Cons: Cost

About Me:

These indicators, which are available fully installed on the St. Croix Legend, are the best I've ever used. They do not freeze up at all, and with the choice between super light to heavy (I use the medium, the pink one), they show even the super light biters. I love the legend series, but I buy the indicators, buy the rod eyelet replacement that fits, and a rubber grommett, and I epoxy them to whatever rod I want to, it's much cheaper than the $50 legend rod, that has no reel. I'd never even consider using another indicator, as I've tried every one on the market.

About Me:
Avid Fisher
The St Croix Super Finesse springs are the best constructed indicators on the market. If you own a Legend Ice rod changing the spring to accomodate different weight jigs is very easy. For panfishing I prefer the light spring. Any tap will move the spring down. If the fish just mouths the jig the spring will lift up. If you are going to purchase a spring indicator to put on a pole that does not have the built in grommet, you will have to rig something up.
Pros: Durable, Functional, Easy To Maintain
Cons: Difficult To Use
Best Uses: Ice Fishing
I would buy this product again and again

Great little idea to add to a specific rod. I'm not sure if it works with any other type of rod though. I read other reviews before buying. I'm glad I bought the medium-heavy for those 12 inch perch. It shows the litest bite in 60' of water.

This spring is made for the Legend Series by St. Croix. I guess you could rig it on a different rod but it works best on the Legend. My Legend rod came with the pink(medium) spring. It works perfect with small teardrop jigs for bluegill. To adjust the spring simply slide it in or out, very simple. For a jig with some weight to it I would recommend the heaviest spring. I caught a bluegill that was only two inches long and if I did not have the spring, such light bites would go without notice. I am going to try it on some walleyes this weekend at L. of the Woods.
