This is a 13' Wild River rod rated for 2-6 lb. test. I spooled my reel with P-Line HydraFloat 15 lb. test (8 lb. mono diameter). At first I thought "no way is this going to work. Too light for big fish, too long to get through the brush". I was wrong. Breaking the rod in half makes it 6.5 feet long, east to maneuver and put in the truck bed. I took it out and promptly caught 5 salmon! This broke a three week skunk for me so needless to say, I was happy. The long rod handled the fish well (up to about 20 lbs.) and the hook sets are awesome! If you set the hook hard while the float and bait are close to you, prepare to duck. Even at about 100 feet out, a hard hook set will pull the float under the water and move it about 5 feet. I was able to use 8 lb. test leader, which was the difference that allowed me to catch fish in the very clear water. It is also extremely easy to retrieve line at the end of a long drift. The long rod will lift a lot of the line off of the water so that the float just skips along towards you. It is much easier to retrieve line with this rod that it is with my 10' rod that is rated 12-17 lbs. I don't know if this rod will handle a real bruiser of a salmon or steelhead but I can't wait to find out.
Pros: very light weight
Best Uses: float fishing
