I was looking specifically for a short (24 inch) heavy or medium-heavy ice fishing rod. Surprisingly, the choice is not that impressive. Most of the rods in the H or M-H category are much longer. I ended up buying a heavy rod from Frabill and St. Croix medium-heavy. So far, I had an opportunity to fish with this rod only twice. Nevertheless, the rod exceeded my expectations by being sturdy yet extremely sensitive. It worked equally well with large balanced lures and tiny wolfram jigs. I would recommend this rod without any reservations.

I am a avid ice fisherman for panfish. I prefer rods that have very flexible tips and action. I found that the light action Legend was too stiff and had too much backbone for me. I use the ultra light action which is still stiffer than other models of ultra light rods. The reel seat is a nice addition if that is what you want. The grommet for attaching the spring indicator is what makes this rod. You can easily change spring indicators as you change to different weight jigs. The spring indicators themselves are the best designed on the market. They are extremely sensitive and the line does not run thru the spring. A real plus when pieces of ice form on your line. The only change I would like to see is a Legend that is 30-32" and a optional cork handle

Good Tip Action

Too Stiff

I live in Northern Ohio, and ice fish for perch, bluegills, and walleye when the ice is good. These rods have joined my 'older' equipment, and their stiffness lends itself well to larger fish, while the spring tip allows me to sense the lightest bite.
