South Bend "Thin Ice" Ice Rods
South Bend "Thin Ice" Ice Rods feature super sensitive, ultralight and light action tubular fiberglass blanks with solid, hi-vis chartreuse tip sections. Thin Ice rods are so sensitive that there is no need to add a spring bobber. Even the lightest bites are broadcasted to the tip, making these rods a great choice for targeting perch and panfish with light lines and micro jigs.
South Bend "Thin Ice" Ice Rods also feature non-flexing eva foam grips with sliding graphite rings, dyna-flow stripper guides, stainless steel snake guides and micro tip tops.
These moderate action ice rods are best used with 1 to 4 pound test line for smaller gamefish species.

A Very Fun Rod!

This is my first ultralight jigging rod. For 30 years I've used light and medium rods with spring bobbers. With this South Bend Thin Ice 30" rod, spring bobbers are definitely not necessary! It's tip is every bit as sensitive as any spring bobber I've ever used. And, due to the rod's ultralight construction, I can feel even the lightest takes in my hand and fingers. It has proven itself to be a great jigging rod for perch and crappie. My only complaint is that the rod feels somewhat unbalanced while landing fish. This is due to what I perceive to be a weak butt section. The taper should have been designed a bit thicker and stronger in this location. Beyond that, it's a fully capable, fun rod to use!
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Weak Butt Section
Best Uses:
Perchpanfish
,
Ice Fishing
,
Jigging
