I have come to believe, "if you are serious about fishing you need good tools".  My first trip with my Stradic was to Eagle Lake, Ontario.  I fished hard for walleye but, caught nearly everything else.  I was reeling in a 26" Northern I hooked on an 1/8 oz Jig, when a huge Musky grabbed it.  In 30 minutes I fought that fish, on six pound line, I brought him to the side of the boat three time.  The guide said it was 56"-58" and 45+pounds.  The Stradic 1000 met the ultimate test: a super smooth drag which held up to 30 minutes max a abuse; smooth powerful line recovery under load;  and dependability I fished the rest of the week with this jewel.  I mounted this reel on a 7' Light action St Croix Rod.  I have four Stradic Reels.  I may be dead with in the next 20 years but, I bet these reels are still going strong

About Me:

I own Stradics from as far back as the 2nd generations and after a thousand battles they are ready for more. My latest purchase of a 2500 was to replace one that rest at the bottom of Lake Charleston in Ontario Canada. Keep it clean, keep it oiled and that's that. Take care of your line as well. Why people blame their reels for line twist is beyond me. Line is going to twist sooner or later for a number of reasons. So pull a few yards off from time to time and change it as needed. The best stories I have concerning my 2500's are 2 of the exact same. While fishing for Bass and Pike in Canada I laid into a few GIANT Muskies. First time I panicked. I figured between 8lb test and a bass reel I was screwed. I was so wrong. With just a tiny turn of the drag the fights began. 56" and 64" and the reel wasn't even warm. The second and larger fish I landed on a much stronger line and had steel leads for both as well. The first was only 4" though. Bottom line the Stradics didn't even hic-cup. Now ya can even take em to the beach, I will never own another reel unless it is a gift or won. The Carbon model? I've been fishing over 40 years now and never complained over an ounce or 2. If ya like it buy it but I'm staying old school.

I have used the shimano stradic now for almost 6 years. It still as smooth when it first came out of the box. This reel is extremley tough and durable. It has a very strong, smooth, put the brakes on drag system. Its also very smooth handeling. Put it all together and this reel is well worth your money and will last forever.

About Me:

I've been an avid northwest salmon/steelhead fisherman for 40 years. The past 10, I've done a lot of float fishing bait and jigs. Most spinning reals don't hold up to the riggors of fighting big strong fish. It's not uncommon to land 8-10 Kings in one day. Many spinning will handle that - but that's only one day in a long season. This reel handles it and keeps on performing. Most others don't. In our area King salmon are required to be released. The 15 pounds of drag the 2500 offers is invaluable in getting fish to the bank while still strong enough to favor survival after release. This is a quality reel that, in my book is underpriced. Simply awesome. Money very well spent.

Pros: Durable , Smooth Drag System , Reliable

I've got 4 older stradic reels and decided to give this series a try. No disappointments at all!!! Very light reel with a super smooth drag system, line lays extraordinarly perfect even with braid. The propulsion seems to help casting with lighter lures some but I didn't notice it alot. Definitely a reel I would buy again!!

Fantastic reel. Really smooth, well engineered, and the maintenance port is a nice touch. I use mine for inshore saltwater fishing in south Louisiana and its perfect for reds and specks. This is the second Stradic I own. The first one is 10 years old and still works great. All I do to clean it after saltwater fishing is to wash it down with a hose.

I've been using this reel to cast small jigs and stickbaits for smallmouth, and I have to say it is the smoothest operating spinning reel I've ever owned. The drag is superb and the reel is very well built. I would recommend this reel to anyone who is in the market for a high performance spinning reel...
