The Shakespeare Excursion Deluxe Travel Rod/Reel Kits are the perfect companion when traveling to new fishing destinations. These combos easily fit behind the seat of a car or truck and will also fit in the overhead compartments on airplanes. The Excursion Deluxe Travel Rod/Reel Kit comes in the two models described below.
The medium kit, model EXC66SPPRKIT, features a 6-piece, 6' 6" medium rod and matching reel size 35 spinning reel rated for 6 to 10 pound test line. The rod breaks down into 15" sections. The reel features graphite construction, a front disc drag, two ball bearing drive and an E-Z Cast bail. Also included is a deluxe, soft-sided padded travel case which features interior compartments for the rod, reel and bonus tackle box. This combo is great for panfish and bass.

I took last year off fishing, This year I wanted a rod and reel that would stow in my car if I wanted to stop somewhere and flip some spinners at the fish.
This does that and allows extra lures in the small tackle box inside.
This arrived today UPS, (Fast shipping by the way!)
I was at the door to meet the delivery man. Fifteen minutes later I had it strun with 30lb braided spider wire I ordered as well. (Yea, I know heavy line on a light reel? Go figure.
An hour later I was on the lake picking off crappie and bass, as I went to check this rod and reel combo out. It performed so much better than expected!

This reel I understand is very inexpensive and there is a reason for that. All four of the bearings used in the manufacture of this reel are cheap steel. The lower bail gear does not even have a bearing! It is simply held in place by the plastic housing with a small boss.
I have owned many Shakespeare products over the years and am generally very happy with them. This product does not fit into that category.
This reel lasted me 4 good trips before it failed miserably. I clean and maintain all of my own gear as I must have reliable equipment during tournaments and such.

Great pole to take on vacation without being hard to pack. Fits right in suitcase or carry on. Great Value, well worth it. Good for most fishing needs, only would not want to fight a monster on it
