About Me:
These reels have endured the test of time. Simple and functional. While I would highly recommend Schooley reels I was a bit disappointed that this reel was not of the quality of the reels that came with a couple of the Schooley combos I have purchased. I on the bottom lip of the spool there was a rough spot and small crack. Fine grit sand paper took care of that. Also, the knob was stiff so I had to remove it and use fine grit sandpaper on the shaft. Once that was done the knob turned freely when reeling. But after all this is a $4 reel so these were not much of an issue.

Pros: Ease of use, simple design

About Me:

Bought these reels to build my own springboard for smelt fishing up in mid-coast Maine tidal waters. Made of nylon plastic construction and virtually indestructible with no line twist. They come in cool colors and best of all they are afforable. FISHUSA has the best price for these reels.

Also started using these reels on my customized panfish jigging rod. It does the job. It even outfish my more expensive set up.

Pros: Colors, indestructible, no line twist, affordable

Cons: None

Best Uses: Springboard/jigboard for smelt, For bluegill and crappie, Jigging for Panfish

I have had the opportunity fish tournies through the ice, from NY to MN since 2001 and Schooley's are the best reel when it comes to panfishing. They are the "original straight line" reel, and at less than four bucks a shot, you can get 20 of them for the price of a good spinning reel

Pros: Keeps your line from twisting

Cons: none

Best Uses: For bluegill and crappie

Received the reel and the next day was reeling in the perch.  lesson learned, do not fill the reel up with mono as the pressure of the line wedged in the spool wiil spread the sidesof the reel and crack the spool where the two sides meet. Use only enough line to get you by,  I didn't like the mounting system, no way to mount the reel to a standard rod seat.   I used plastic wire ties and electrical tape to secure the reel to the rod.  I do like these reels,  simple to use, lightweight and no line twist.
