This is the seond Okuma SST I've purchased - and I sent the 8'6" rod back without using it. I kept this one because it's okay for fishing in the surf. Okuma consistently disappoints across all of their product linespriced below $100.
The rod is sensitive and light weight. It's nice to look at. That's where the high points end.
The guides are flimsy: when you start to break the rod down to transport it, they'll bend and deform if you're not careful. The guides are too small: the 9-foot MH is designd for 10-20 lb line and a 4000-sized of larger reel, but not even my 2500-sized reels fit this rod without the line deflecting off the top of the first, largest guide. The guide wraps are not tight enough: when breaking it down for transport, the guides can slide out of alignment. The reel handle is comfortable but is of a similar material to a golf club grip, and is a pain to clean if you worry about imvasive species.
Overall, I'm not sure I'd trust it to handle a salmon, but for low-budget, light tackle fishing in the surf for perch, it works just fine.
What a great fishing rod for our greatlakes tributary salmon fishing. I've been using this rod for three years now with great experiences. Recently purchassed another to have for a back-up or if Dad ever decides to join me for a trip. Three thumbs up for this Okuma SST 10'6" MED ROD!
Dont think about buying this rod its junk!!, The first steel head I hooked broke it in 1/2 It was 2 days old and it was new. very dissapointed in this rod and will never buy this product again dont want to send them more money its not worth another 20 bucks, This rod was not abused in any way what a disapointment.
A wonderful and responsive rod for river salmon and steelhead. It has proven itself in the first few outings. Well made and a great deal for the price. Fast delivery also.
The rod has a nice backbone to it for a 9ft noodle rod. Most noodle rods are too flimsy for my liking. I own this rod and a medium action riversider. Both rods are inexpensive and catch as many fish as a 700.00 G-Loomis.
Very light rod,and a sensetive tip.No issues so far.
Light and Easy to cast!
This is one nice rod for the money. I've been looking for a rod with a soft tip and plenty of backbone to pull in the big ones. I use it for drift fishing in rivers for sm bass.
