Description

Okuma Blue Diamond Trolling Rods

Okuma Blue Diamond Trolling Rods

Okuma has introduced another value-packed trolling rod line-up with its Blue Diamond Series. With advances in today's rod building technology, Okuma has incorporated many high-end features into this multi-purpose Blue Diamond selection. Each rod is made with an E-glass core and an outer layer of graphite, resulting in a light weight rod with superior strength and super responsive action.

These rods feature a triangular fore grip that prevents the rod from twisting while you are fighting a fish. These rods also have super hard plated gold guide inserts that will withstand the abuse of heavy mono and braided lines and roller guides designed for use with wire trolling lines.

Features of these rods include:
  • Black EVA foam grips
  • Graphite and stainless steel up-locking reel seats with cushioned hoods
  • E-Glass core for strength
  • Outer layer of graphite for super responsive action
  • Beautiful high-gloss black finish with blue wrappings
  • Hook keeper
  • Gimbaled butt with removable foam fighting butt
  • Downrigger rods feature heavy-duty guides with hard plated gold inserts
These are all two-piece rods. Additional specifications are provided in the table below.

About Me:

I love this light medium weight rod in the 8'6" configuration. With the 12, yes 12 guides, the line has a super positive flow off and onto the reel even under the stress of larger fish. The ergonomic handle is ultra comfortable and keeps the rod from turning unwantedly in grip.

The rod is two piece but ultimately makes a fine one piece with a good stron glue at the ferrule.

Pros: Strong, limber
Cons: none
Best Uses: none

About Me:

I hate wimpy rods that bend back so far they have no angle left for tip action when trooling big muskie lures at 5mph. Also.... wimpy rods make my spread narrower instead of keeping the lures away from the boat. Same thing goes for trolling Dipsies for walleyes... the rod needs to have somethong left after loading it up with such resistence. I don't need to spend [$] or more for that kind of rod anymore.
Pros: Not wimpy, Durable, Darn good looking, Good Tip Action
Cons: none
Best Uses: Dragging dipsies, Muskie trolling

Be sure to measure twice as these bad boys are pretty long, but are well built and perfect for trolling. I used them on my Okuma 15's trolling in the Keys for Mahi and Wahoo. Caught plenty of both, plus hooked a little Tuna. Great Action and control. We even had some fun with some 4-5 foot Cuda's in shallow water just to see how the rods and reels would do....Both Amazing. I asked my buddy how his Peen 30's were treating him and his wallet :-)
Pros: Good Tip Action, Easy To Transport, Sensitive, Accurate Casting, Durable, Flexible
Cons: none
Best Uses: Ocean Fishing

About Me:

I bought this rod to fish for salmon on Lake Ontario, mainly in the spring. This is a nice quality rod but the medium light version is somewhat to light /flexible. I caught a nice 20 lb salmon on this rod, but it does not have enough stiffness to guide this fish to the net at the end of the fight. Also with such a light rod I feel that the hook set might be compromised. I would recommend the medium version 8'6" rod, as it should provide more qualities for trolling for larger salmon. Overall it's a nice rod and I will keep using it.
Pros: Sensitive, Flexible, Good Tip Action
Cons: none

I would buy this product again.

I have the 7,5' ML & 8,5' M downrigger versions. Both are very lightwight (so I doubt the durability in extended use). The action is on the soft side compared to other rods i'm using for trolling & downriggers(Ugly Stick Tigers). Good quality finnish overall.

Just returned from fishing the west side of Vancouver Island at Nootka Sound. Biggest fish was 36 pound Chinook. The Okuma Blue Diamond performed flawlessly. I purchased because a good friend has fished them for years and I saw how good the rods are. He catches lots of big salmon. Well worth the money, I purchased another, too.
Pros: Durable, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive

For trolling on the great lakes this rod is a great choice for the price. It adapts well to heavy wire trolling. The butt end with crosslock seating for rodholders keeps the guides in line with the trolling resistence. The guides are durable enough for several seasons of wire trolling.
Pros: Flexible, Durable guides, Durable, Rod holder butt
Cons: none
Best Uses: Diver trolling, Copperline trolling, Large Fish
