Minn Kota Terrova Trolling Motors are freshwater bow mount motors that feature an innovative easy in, easy out stow/deploy mechanism. The balanced motor design makes stowing easy, and a master cut-off switch automatically turns off the motor when stowed. Terrova motors also feature a waterproof, low-profile electric steer foot pedal lets you take precise control with less than one degree of steering resolution. These are the new benchmark in electric-steer, bow-mount performance. Terrova meets any obstacle and puts it in its place to help you fish without limits.
Minn Kota Terrova Trolling Motors are constructed with an indestructible composite shaft that is stronger than steel, flexes on impact, and won’t break, kink or corrode. These motors feature the Weedless Wedge 2 Prop that pushes weeds away and takes on the thick stuff without battery-draining chopping and hacking. The weedless prop features swept-back, flared blades for unrelenting, reliable prop performance.
I did my first launch with the new Terrova 80 with AP, a 60" shaft and US2. On the plus side, the motor worked well and had a little more power than the 8-year old Power Drive 74 with AP and a 60"shaft, which it replaced. The control box is a distinct improvement over the Power Drive version, due to its remote AP switch and general user friendliness. The US2 is a good concept and enables the equivalent of an early advisory function since i provides a depth reading sooner than the transom mounted transducer does. The motor assembly is easier to handle up and down than the Power Drive.
Downsides are as follows: cable for the US2 is an added trip nuisance. Also, the US2 added bulk and weight to the motor assembly. The Terrova when mounted, though its shaft is same length as the old Power Drive's, sits higher on the boat and in effect caused the prop to be a half-inch higher in the water. That's a problem because my boat top sits high above the water and I need all the prop depth under water that I can get.
