Float fishing has been hot in Great Britain for ages, and has become very popular in Canada for salmon and steelhead fishing. It is now catching on rapidly in the United States as well because it is an unbelievably effective method to drift fish for steelhead and salmon.
These high quality rods are made by G. Loomis Canada of top-quality IM6 graphite.
Frontier rods feature a dark "matte" grey color. They have long, premium "Tennessee" style cork handles. The handles are approximately 18" in length (including the butt). They all have a sliding ring reel seat and a hook keeper. These are two and three piece rods. They have very small-diameter upper guides and tip-top.
All G. Loomis Canada rods are be covered by the Manufacturer's Limited Lifetime Warranty. For details on the Loomis warranty, please click HERE. (Please note that the "GL Xpediter Service program" is not available for these rods).
We also sell the ">G. Loomis Center Pin Float Reel for these rods.

Received 9.5 ft. fly rod as retirement gift.
Tip broke. Sent for warranty but was advised by Shimano that this was not a G. Loomis rod and no warranty applied.
This rod is still available and any buyer should be aware of no warranty.
Loved the rod although a bit heavy compared to my other rods.

I used this rod to fish for about a month. I liked how it handled, however the top four guides iced up easily and the rod shattered in the mid section on a 9 pound steelhead. This should NEVER happen with a rod of this caliber. Also, when I returned it to Loomis Canada, which is now Shimano Canada; they would NOT warrant the rod since they did not acquire Frontier. If this rod breaks on you, there is NO warranty which is why FishUSA should lower its price even more! Buyers Beware!

Breaks Easily

1562 2 piece. Hard to transport in a vehicle, very hard moving around in woods or brush as the length when broken down is still over 6 feet. Top line guides are quite small and tend to ice easily in foul weather, but my real complaint is that this rod weighs a ton which becomes an issue on longer outings. It does have the backbone to handle anything a steelhead throws at it. I don't take good care of it but it has never broken

3 of my buddies each bought the Frontier 11' 6' pin rods for steelies (med) action. All of have broke this rod several times.
If you are looking for a quality drift rod, this is way too brittle. We have broke tips, butt sections and mid-sections. Please note: these were broken landing fish....non-salmon....winter and fall steelhead in the great lakes. I have landed 25lb carp on these things.....but for whatever reason, they break under the cold or the meanness of a fresh run fish.
These are expensive to repair since canadian customs hammers you in and out on shipping. Be advised.
