I got a catking ace40 all aluminum reel for my birthday and installed it on my 6.5ft IM8 one piece inshore rod but the first time I used it I noticed that it didn't cast very far with live whitebait on freeline with 40lb dyneema braid. I would end up slinging the bait off the hook trying to get distance. So I bought this rod since it was 8.5 ft with a med-heavy action and 10 guides. I didn't want to go with lighter line because the snook like to run in the mangroves and break you off. I thought the extra 2 feet would help cast farther and it did.... way way farther even with the 40lb braid and the non-aerodynamic whitebait that flop in the wind during casting. My first cast went about 80 feet and landed about a foot away from the mangroves and I caught a 26 inch redfish. This rod is the perfect balance of flexibility and strength, it practically fights the fish for you. VERY PLEASED.

Pros: 10 guides, Very light rod with great tip action.

Cons: one guide was installed a hair out of line with the others

Best Uses: casting light live bait on freeline long distances

This was my first trip salmon fishing. The rod performed excellent. I oculd not believe the power of those fish but was very happy with my medium heavy rod. thie first hook up I thought for sure the rod would just explode but to my surprise I was able to land many 20# plus salmon time and time again.

Pros: Very light rod with great tip action.

Cons: None.

Best Uses: I would use this rod for bass flipping as well as any fresh water species.
