If you fish with a planer, especailly from a small boat, this is a very convenient way to mount the planer mast. It keeps you from having the mast mount in the way, or where you could trip over it, when the planer is not in use. I have not had any problems with this product. I use my planer mast to tow a pair of ski planers in saltwater and was originally concerned about the strength of the mount. After using the mount for several days, I am satisfied that this is not going to be a problem.
