In the Sierra lakes, powerbait is the "go to" bait for stocked trout. We use a #14-16 treble hook, slip sinker and a 2-3 foot leader. The powerbait dough will float the hook above submerged weeds.

I use Berkley Power Baits. I use the power baits for trout, but occasionally I catch catfish. I used to use worms and other natural baits, but Berkley has made it much easier for me. Trout might hit the natural baits but will always hit the Berkley Power baits because of the scent. My only problem is finding the color. This is a great bait for trout fishing. I use the bait with #16 & #14 treble hooks with an egg slip sinker.
