G. Loomis GL2 Series Fly Rods

G. Loomis GL3 Fly Rods It's sometimes recommended that less experienced fly anglers use a line one weight heavier than normal to make their rod easier to cast. We think a rod should be easy to cast, right from the start, with the line for which it's designed. And that's what you'll experience with our GL2s. Because we design them to be smooth and easy to cast from the get-go, the GL2s load easily with their rated line size, especially the shorter-belly introductory fly lines. They feel great whether you're making short or long casts thanks to our Progressive Power taper. And their medium-soft feel, combined with a fast action, allows them to generate plenty of line speed, as well as nice, clean loops. The GL2s are quite light, yet extremely durable—another bonus during those first forays into the fly world. If you're just beginning to become addicted to fly fishing, or you want a precision graphite rod for occasional use, you can't go wrong with a GL2.

All G. Loomis rods are covered by the Manufacturer's Limited Lifetime Warranty. For details on the Loomis warranty, and their GL Xpediter Service program for quick replacement of your rod, please click HERE .

In addition, we offer Free Shipping for any of the GL2 fly rods listed on this page.

We stock the GL2 rods in the Neptune color, which is the dark blue. All the GL2 rods are also available in Evergreen. If you order a GL2 rod, we will ship it in the Neptune color unless you call or email right away and advise us that you want it in one of the other available colors.

To order one of these fine rods, and for details of a specific rod, please select one of the links in the table above.

  • FR904 - This is a very versatile small stream rod, capable of casting any small fly and even some streamers. It makes an excellent all-purpose model for smaller streams and shorter casting applications, as well as a very fine panfish rod.

  • FR1085 - This is the bread and butter trout rod for most anglers. A great choice for all-around versatility and performance. The GL2 is a progressive taper rod that's tough, yet loads easily and smoothly.

  • FR1086 - Ten years ago, a nine-foot six-weight was the standard for western trout anglers. As rod materials have improved and rods have become lighter and stronger, the #6 has taken a back seat to the 5-weight. It's now the "in between" size for the transition from trout fishing to warmwater species. Capable of remarkably long casts, the 1086 also has the ability to make delicate presentations-especially in windy conditions where a #5 can't quite handle it. This is a good streamer rod, and it admirably casts the oversized, wind-resistant poppers, stoneflies and hoppers so popular on the larger streams of the high desert. It's also an excellent rod for ultralight saltwater applications on the flats, going after bonefish and small mangrove snapper.

  • FR1088 - The 9' for #8 is a versatile, medium-heavy outfit suited to larger flies and floating or sinking lines. It's the number one choice among saltwater anglers for flats fishing, as it's capable of handling the predominant flies used in that environment. The GL2 is a nice, easy-loading rod for less aggressive casters or anyone just learning to use heavier gear.

  • FR1089 - The 9' for 9 weight lines is a very versatile and durable big rod for salmon, pike and saltwater use. A medium-fast rod, casts big flies and handles wind with authority, without a lot of effort.

  • FR10810 - Our 9' 10-weight is the second most popular choice among saltwater anglers. This rod is designed to handle big streamer flies, size 2 and above, and it's capable of pushing bigger flies at fairly reasonable distances. Also good for weighted flies and heavily weighted sinking fly lines, it comes with a larger diameter fighting butt for cushioning when playing bigger fish. This is also an excellent light-duty tarpon rod. After all, they're not all hundred pounders.
