Backbouncing is a special technique used primarily by Northwest steelhead and salmon anglers. To fish a pool or run, heavy lead is used to put your bait right on the bottom and, with the help of the current, literally bounce your bait downstream, keeping it right in the fish's face.
Consequently, the rod you choose depends on the power necessary to lift the weight off the bottom and still have sufficient power to set the hook with authority. A heavy-duty rod with a stiff tip is crucial, because many times the fish are smack dab in the heaviest current and you need a lot of lead. (Not to mention the fact that King Salmon can weigh in excess of 90 pounds.)
We stock the Classic Backbounce Casting rods in the Neptune color, which is the dark blue.
