Report: Since I read this page too often and
fish too little, I felt obligated to offer a
report! Fished both Walnut (AM) and Elk (PM) below
and around Route 5 using sucker spawn of various
colors (color not important, light leader was).
Caught some nice steelhead in both locations.
Conditions: Walnut: The already low water levels
were falling and nearly clear by late morning. Elk:
Also low and clear, with water level visibly
falling. Prognosis: unless it rains again, you will
be fishing very low, clear water conditions on both
streams, for fish that saw fairly intense angling
pressure yesterday.

Report: Walnut Creek has fish in good
numbers up to Route 5...
Elk Creek had good populations of fish at the
upstream side of the Conrail Tubes and probably
even up to the RR trestle above Whitman's Bridge
(not confirmed)
The PFBC is securing an additional portable toilet
for the southern end of the south parking lot. Huge
crowds completely overwhelmed the one unit by the
basin. Additionally, whenever possible, the main
building at Walnut will have restrooms open from 8
am till 3 pm. This is subject to employee
availability for this task.
Wco Carter reports that Twenty Mile Creek also has
a run of fish in it from the rain.

Report: The roadkill does it again! Had a
great day of fly-fishing at twenty mile creek
today. We went around noon after class, and the
mouth of the creek was really windy. This proved to
be a great advantage to fishing. It drove all of
the other fisherman away, but it made for some
great fishing. If you could cast through the wind,
the fish would hit it. We fished with the tan and
orange roadkill which has proved to be very
effective this fall. We caught 8 in all and had a
great time. Hopefully some rain will improve the
fishing conditions soon, but until then the wind
will do just fine.

Report: Fished the Walnut marina from 5:30
to 9:30. One fish landed on nightcrawler -
beautiful 11.2#. Only hit of the day. Also went to
RR trestle on Elk - stream was very low and clear.
A few guys fishing, but not much catching. But does
it really matter?

Report: Thought it was going to be another
great day with the rain we got, but the fish did
not come. Saw very few steelies caught above and
below manchester. Three of us hooked 25 and landed
about 14. Of those landed 6 were salmon including a
nice 8# male. Saw maybe 20 fish caught besides
ours. With the lack of rain I was sure the run
would be huge. I did see some large steelies caught
below the bridge. Went to the marina and saw at
least 100 guys and only 4 fish on stringers. The 6
ft plus waves must have kept the fish out. I cant
believe somone actually was able to cast at
trout!!!! Three guys told us they went and couldnt
get near the surf. Water was slightly up and very
muddy with tons of leaves. by noon water was
dropping fast and clearing as well. We need alot
more rain.... When i drove up 98 over elk it looked
very low and not to muddy. I guess by thursday well
be back to low clear water, this weekend for sure.
maybe elk was better, walnut was poor for getting a
good rain..... was surprised to catch that many
salmon, mostly jacks about 3#. caught most on egg
sacks.
good luck,
ed

all 4 limited in under 3 hours of it becoming

were the best. See you in a week...

Report: Stream was low and clear. No fish at
rte 5 could be found. Ended up going to about 1/4
mile from the creek mouth of lake erie.
Fishing pressure was high but the fish were
everywhere! Fished along stone embankment on east
side of stream where channel was present.
Could see fish move through my spot. People were on
either side. But it did not matter as black or
white mini foos worked with or without the
bobber.
Had numerous strikes through the day. eight or nine
in all. Ended catching my two fish limit on both
Friday and Saturday.
My partner also caught a 4.5 lb brown trout steel
head wannabee --- beautiful fish.
Steelhead were of all colors from purple to silver
with red stripes. 6 to 8 lb average.
Some fish dove deep others were acropatic
jumpers.
It certainly was a wonderful time!
Viva los Steely!!!

Report: My roomate and I are students at
Behrend and we make frequent trips to Elk and
Walnut creek . We are fly-fishermen and we continue
to be digusted about the number of snaggers on the
creeks. I even saw one youngster with nothing but a
large trebile hook! These fish are amazing, and it
really diappointing to see the total lack of
sportmanship. We have had some luck with a fly
known as the roadkill, also a pink and white sucker
spawn seems to work as well. Took a thirty inch,
eight pounder at the tubes a few weeks ago, but the
fishing has been slow because of the lack of rain.
Pray for rain and report the snaggers!

Report: What a great week of fishing. Made
my annual trip up north this week. The weather was
a far cry from Alabama's. But the fishing more than
made up for it. I started out the week fishing the
elk. There was tons of people but the fish were
really stacked in the lower part of the stream. You
just had to be persistant. Caught most of my fish
off singles and redworms, also a few on jigs. By
Friday all the talk was about the Walnut Marina.
After being there for five minutes I could see why.
Fish were being caught continuously. In two hours I
caught 3 on jigs and 1 on blue+silver cleo. Ended
week landing 27 and hooking up alot more. Biggest
fish 8 pounds. C-ya next fall.

Report: The basin at Walnut Access is the
"hottest" spot ever. Black mini-foo jigs with 3 or
4 maggots floated with a bobber or silver &
blue foil spoons are both extremely effective.
It just doesn't get any better fishing than this
is. .... Be sure to stop at the Stop Sign entering
the property. Strict enforcement continues due to
near misses involving anglers crossing the road to
walk to Manchester Hole & back.

Report: It is no surprise to many steelhead
fisherman that elk remains unusually low.
Consequently, the fish are not widely distributed
which creates congestion at the mouth. Fish are
being caught near the lake but it's not a pretty
sight. The fish are badly outnumbered and many
anglers are not showing restraint under conditions
that make the fish vulnerable to unscrupulous
techniques. One can only justify the "sport" of
fishing by some reasonable ethical standard. What a
vulgar end for such magnificent creatures.

Report: I must have thrown everything but my
tackle box at these fish, did get one hit on a
blue, silver and orange ratl trap. Mostly people
are there with spawn sacs and jigs with maggots on
bobbers - boring. Though every once in a while
someone gets one.
I did go out on the breakwall and the fish appear
to be staging out there since the H20 level is so
low in the Creek. Lots of nice fish coming out.
REALLY CROWDED THOUGH. Bring your armor, kids and
moms casting for the first time are a plenty!!
